Facing Homelessness Board of Directors

Tolu Akinola (he/him)

Tolu is passionate about solving the issue of homelessness in our community.  He believes that homelessness, while a big issue, can be solved through compassionate, evidence based approaches. Tolu has been engaged with organizations across the Pacific Northwest providing assistance over the years. His engagement with Facing Homelessness began from seeing the pragmatic approach the organization takes towards addressing the needs of the local homeless community. Tolu loves soccer, travel and any water based activities. He lives on Mercer Island and is a product manager with experience working at high-tech companies like Meta, Microsoft and SAP.

I believe that homelessness is a social issue that we all must address together. I understand that many different factors impact a person’s housing situation. I learned more about those factors while driving a van that shuttled unhoused people in my community to warm churches in the area. Those personal interactions helped broaden my perspective. As I connected with people and listened to their stories, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges they faced on a daily basis. I am honored to use my business experience to serve the community through this wonderful organization. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three grown children, traveling, and participating in outdoor activities in the PNW. I joined the board in December of 2021 and currently serve as Treasurer.

Like many Seattleites, I've witnessed the effects of homelessness on our city and its most vulnerable populations and have experienced the frustration of not knowing how or where to get involved. Facing Homelessness has provided the pathway, helping me find ways to contribute my skills and experiences to helping change lives for the better, mine included. I have been on the board since 2019, was treasurer in 2020, and am currently board president.

Adrian Ronsse (he/him or they/them)

My connection to Facing Homelssness' mission stems from my own experience with housing insecurity as a low-income renter in my mid-20s. During this time, I relied on the generosity of a close personal friend to remain housed. I am extremely grateful for the privacy and dignity my friend's generosity afforded me while I was at my most vulnerable. In honor of that gift, and out of love for the younger version of myself that needed extra support, I am now driven to share in uplifting my community members currently unhoused. I joined the Board in December 2021, and I hope to bring a perspective balance of income and gender diversity, along with professional skills in construction estimating I have acquired in recent years

Living in Seattle, it's impossible not to witness the growing and terrible conditions of our un-sheltered population. In the 90's I focused my career working with people who have lost their homes, and started to develop an understanding of the complex and layered issues with homelessness. I explored other paths in social work and recently I started volunteering at the Window of Kindness. After just a few shifts, I knew I wanted to be a bigger part of helping our un-sheltered neighbors and a bigger part of Facing Homelessness.

I have an MS in Psychology and have spent 5 serving on the board of directors for another non-profit organization.  I love spending time my husband and two kids. I'm most happy when I am spending time outside.
